great new discovery, palazzo grimani |
Could be close to my 50th trip to venice. A great weekend Sept 17-19th, 2010 and we still had places to see we had never seen. Did two days worth of the biennale of architecture at both the giardino and the arsenale (great way to avoid the ever-present crowds in venice). Wandered into the palazzo Grimani for an exhibit of Giorgione. The exhibit was only 3 paintings which are normally in the Accademia gallery. Not to belittle Giorgione's painting but touring the palazzo Grimani was fabulous; pastel colored stucco work, Pompeinian frescos, a ceiling based on the pantheon, impressive stone fireplaces and more. Took in the tuscan collection at the Museo Cini in dorsoduro (free and well worth a look), as well as a wonderful concert, Il Trillo del Diavolo (the Devil's Trill), at the very pretty Casa Goldoni. We were treated to the lovely, soprano voice of Liesl Odenweller, and listened to the spinetta, tiorba and violin. All wonderful. If in venice look for concerts sponsored by www.musicavenezia.org or www.museiciviciveneziani.it

genninger studios |
And of course one has to pop into at least a shop or two. Our favorite glass jewelry store has relocated from the grand canal to a very pretty quiet piazzetta in dorsoduro. Called Genninger Studio, campiello barbaro. www.genningerstudios.it
The pencil display looks really cool!
ReplyDelete50 trips to Venice, wow! :)
Any photos of purchases from Genninger Studio? Looks like a lovely store.
ReplyDeleteThe Venetian window silhouettes displayed are very beautiful.
